You think, just by the name of this game, that you have to jump into a ring, punch, kick, strangle, pick up and throw them away and try to basically humiliate other wrestlers. Well, you're wrong. There are a lot of complications to worry about. Some other wrestlers can come down and help beat you up or sometimes help you which can surprisingly work to your advantage. While fighting you can be hit by a steel pole to a television from the crowd. All weapons which will cause you great pain.
This game had to be good to contend with the huge hit by Acclaim, WWF Warzone. For this game to content with the giant hit, THQ would have to make it just as fast and full of wrestlers and have a lot more modes to play in. WCW Vs NWO Thunder has improved by making the graphics more realistic and also by making the moves more realistic. They have added a few modes which have not been featured in any other wrestling game e.g. A Royal Rumble. The Royal Rumble is the best feature in the game where you start with four wrestlers in the ring and a following thirty come in. Once you have thrown out one of your four opponents, one of the thirty will enter and this will continue until no one is left to come into the ring. The final person left after all the rumbling gets the Royal Rumble belt. The game has little videos that show the wrestlers making their way to the ring, but these are the only good things about the game.
The way to sum Thunder up is to say it is too S___L___O___W. You could pull off a few pumeles, then have a cuppa and a read of the newspaper before your opponent rises.
Basically this game is the same as Nitro with a few little touches with the graphics and a few more modes e.g. Royal Rumble and Cage Match. This game has over 60 wrestlers to fight with which gives you a good selection. BUT all the wrestlers have the same moves which is basically as much point as having a football team with all players called Ronaldo.
A word of advice if you are considering buying this game. Don't. It would be all right to rent it, but stick to your Warzone; it will give you a lot more pleasure than this. Maybe you will enjoy the graphics, but you will hate the speed.
