Pro Pinball: Big Race USA is the latest release in Empire's outstanding Pro pinball series. But, compared to previous pinball games for the Playstation this has to be the best. The reasons for this being the best pinball game on the Playstation are the new hi-res graphics which weren't in the predecessors: The Web and Timeshock. The only thing that people might get bored at is that there is only one table in the game, but it is one outstanding table which looks very realistic and it is very colourful with lots of flashing lights and neat animations which are also very realistic. Another addition to this game is the Head-to-head mode which allows you to play against a friend as long as he/she brings his/her Playstation and a copy of the game round to your house. I included she and her in the last sentence because I think girls/ladies and women will be attracted to this game as well as me.
The idea of the game is to race across America passing through 16 cities, which act as different play areas which have their own characteristics and hidden quirks, in a super-powered yellow taxi. But for the taxi to be super-powered you have to clock up the 'Bucks' by pulling off certain shots or buying a winning lottery ticket, which can only be done after you've pulled off a certain shot. You have 5 opponents to race against, The Monster Truck, Hot Rod, Sports Car, Mini-Beetle, and the ever present police car.
My favourite part of the game is that you have total control of the physical parameters of the game, making the table feel like your own, including: table slope, table age, flipper strength (wasn't he in a film once?? I never knew dolphins could lift weights!) outlane size, slingshot power and tilt sensitivity.
Overall, I think Empire's pinball competitors will have their job cut out to match this sensational effort. The only thing I think can be improved is to chuck a few more tables in to the game. There is still no way anyone will get bored with this, even the music is groovy and keeps you awake unlike previous pinball games which have cheesy music. Absolutely sensational game, well done everyone at Empire Interactive.
