REVIEW: -

If you like realism in your games with rocks flying past your head, crumbling walls, villains with guns rat-a-tat-tating at you from around every corner, rockets going of and men screaming like young school-girls and added blood, pain and agony, then this is your kind of game. If you've seen the film then you'll know the plot, but for those who haven't, here's a brief summary. You break out of prison, shoot some people, discover that the world is under threat from four horsemen connected with the titular apocalypse and then you run around a bit in an effort to kill them off and inevitably save the world.

The area's that you have to guide Mr Willis through are very interesting. To start with there's a city with collapsing bits, then you progress to a graveyard later on with even more collapsing bits all before you end up at the White House, and yes, collapsing bits are included here as well. One cannot over emphasise the regularity with which the game is infused with volatile hazards that you have to navigate your way past/around.

The main problems in Apocalypse are the size of Bruce Willis at some stages in the game and the lack of exploring to do. For such a huge star like Bruce Willis, his screen presence is minuscule, sometimes it is hard to pinpoint his exact position on the screen. There is no exploring as such to be done, just the constant movement forward or sideways and plenty of relentless bombardment from everywhere. The game isn't that tedious, for a while it is confusing in its use of the character, a little jerky in places and steeped in simple play mechanics. It has an element (The fifth? - G-String) that seizes you by the thumbs. An unknown element which finds you looking at the clock, realising you've just missed Eurotrash and the start of Beverly Bordello and you don't mind (but your hand might!).

Although Apocalypse has this certain pull on you, it isn't very challenging and maybe a tad too easy for some of you armchair gunmen out there, but it looks great and plays brilliantly. It should keep you occupied for a couple of days, maybe even a week. Shoot 'em up fans will enjoy this game, even non-shoot-'em-up fans will find this game enjoyable.
